Top 10 recipes of 2015

Chili Verde Mexican Stewed Pork- tender, flavorful and incredibly versatile. We ate this as tacos and quesadillas but also could be used as burritos, enchiladas, etc


Pot Pie Crumble- very easy, easily doubles for a crowd, kids loved it- homerun!


Philly Cheesesteak Calzone- there's no explanation needed on why this was awesome- the name says it all


Korean Beef and Rice- next time I will have to double this because it was gobbled up with no leftovers to spare!


Crockpot Carmelized Pork Ramen Noodle Soup with Curry Roasted Acorn Squash- this is definitely my favorite recipe of the year. Our friends the Laramas made it for us first and then we borrowed some small amounts of some of the rarer ingredients to make it ourselves. It seriously is amazing! And such a fun meal to share with friends and family. All the ingredients can be found in a grocery store with a good asian section. Central Market for sure. If you want a show-stopper for company, this is your recipe!


Homemade refried beans- the secret ingredient makes these refried beans stand out among the others


Honey lime enchiladas- sweet and spicy, easily freezable and oh so tasty!


Honey Chipotle Chicken Bowls- I loved the different flavors and textures in each bite. The kids loved being able to pick what they put in their bowl :)


Chicken and Vegetable Dumpling Soup- this soup was so popular I made it again two nights after I made it the first time. Yum!

Apple Squash Bacon Pizza- a recipe from Angela that was PERFECT for the fall and loved by every member of the Heaviland clan

Meals in January

December was a month of holiday parties, neighbors bringing cookies over daily, gallons of egg nog from Costco, seasonal peppermint JoJos from Trader Joes, etc. Needless to say, Mark and I were ready for healthy start to 2016. I saw this two week 2015 clean eating plan from buzzfeed life on pinterest. It caught my eye because the photos were excellent and it looked like recipes I could enjoy. We started it at the beginning of the month and Mark and I both lost 7 pounds in the two weeks. We liked it so much that we continued on with their two week 2014 clean eating menu. And after that we'll be starting February with their one week 2016 clean eating menu. All menus are free to download and include shopping lists and detailed recipe instructions. We are feeling great and hoping to continue making healthy choices throughout the year. Perhaps that means chocolate malts every night are off the menu...

Meals in December

For meals in December we used this 15 meals for $150 Winco Meal Plan. Between family dinners, holiday parties, leftover nights, etc this meal plan pretty much covered our whole month. I loved how the shopping list was printable and it gave you brand AND size so I knew exactly what to grab off the shelf. I still had to supplement our month with fruits, veggie sides, dairy and bread for our breakfasts and lunches but our overall grocery budget was much lower than usual! My favorite meals from the plan were sausage with potatoes and broccoli, taco bake and salami/spinach strombolis. You have to buy the meal plan for $4 but it was well worth it. I wish she had more menus!
